SOA: Black and White Pain-tings # 1, 2005 is composed of 12-page letterpress printed and hand-bound accordion book (in a limited edition of 10), an audio track, and a series of inkjet prints on canvas.

This audio-book that confronts a reenacted speech delivered at the closing ceremony of The School of The Americas in 2000 with manipulated images appropriated from media of historical events in which graduates of the school were involved.

Forced to close due to accusations of human rights violations, the school faced innumerable allegations for its involvement in the "democratization" of Latin American nations. The speech was slightly modified by changing pronouns in paragraphs, thus making the deliverer question his own disclaiming statements.

Book's archival case was hand-made by Ana Cordeiro. It contains the accordion book and CD Player. It also works as a display box for the book itself. (rollover image for detail).
